ew York University honors artist Marlene McCarty with this first-ever survey of her work, featuring everything from her early '90s word paintings and matchbook sculptures to her large-scale figurative drawings, at the school's 80 Washington Square East Galleries. Tending to deal with themes of adolescence, sexuality and feminine aggression, McCarty's recent drawings are based on news stories about teenage girls who have killed someone—in most cases, their mothers. Even in a week with plenty of strong showings by female artists, this exhibition promises to stand out. Tuesday's opening reception begins at 6pm.
